Jacksen Thiago : “I was a bit surprised with how Boas Salossa performed. The man has shown everyone the talent he has and reminded fans that he used to be one of the best strikers in Indonesian football.
“I could see all of Boas’ best qualities on display when he created our third goal. I cannot understand why he was not included in the national squad for the last AFF Cup. He really showed that he is a man of discipline.”

Vinh: Persipura Jayapura boss Jacksen Thiago was delighted his side could end their poor away form in the AFC Cup and secure a place in the last eight following a 3-1 win over Song Lam Nghe An at Vinh Stadium.

The Indonesians had picked up just two points on their travels in the group stage but their struggles were quickly forgotten with an excellent display against the Vietnam Cup holders.

Boas Salossa opened the scoring from the spot just before the half-hour mark and Titus Bonai doubled the lead before half-time.

Nguyen Hong Viet pulled a goal back for Song Lam Nghe An in the 59th minute before Ortizan Salossa wrapped up victory for the Indonesians six minutes from the end following a swift and incisive counter-attack.

“It was very comfortable when my players showed from the beginning that their inefficient performance playing away had ended with the group stage,” said Tiago.

“We played a beautiful game today with high inspiration. My midfielders did a great job when delivering high-speed one-touch combinations across the field.

Meanwhile, Song Lam Nghe An boss Nguyen Huu Thang admitted they had lost to the better side.

“Frankly, I must say Persipura produced much better football today,” he said.

“They did not dominate the game but knew how to stop us from threatening their penalty area. I could not blame the absence of Phan Nhu Thuat and Nguyen Cong Manh for the lacklustre performance from the midfielders as Nguyen Quang Tinh and Nguyen Hong Viet did their best.

“I just felt sorry that my midfielders chose to play long balls directly towards Persipura’s box when they have the mountain Bio (Paulin) Pierre, who is very strong in the air.

“Persipura successfully imposed their football on us and made us play their game and tempo. I already knew that Boas Salossa was a dangerous forward. He played as a shadow striker and most of Persipura’s attack came through him.

“However, my players did not keep close enough to him and provided him with plenty of space. Besides, I also was quite happy with Nguyen Hong Viet. This midfielder proved he has fully come back after lacking motivation for a long tim”.
